Neuronox (Botox) is derived from the bacteria responsible for botulism. It obstructs nerve signals in the muscles, resulting in a temporary decrease in muscle activity. Neuronox is utilized to address cervical dystonia (intense spasms in the neck muscles) or severe underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis). Additionally, it is employed to treat specific eye muscle issues linked to nerve disorders, including uncontrollable blinking or eyelid spasms and conditions where the eyes do not align properly. Moreover, Neuronox is used to temporarily reduce the visibility of facial wrinkles. There may be other uses for Neuronox that are not mentioned in this medication guide.

Botox is a toxin secreted by Clostridium botulinum bacteria. Neuronox functions by reducing nerve impulses to the muscles, promoting relaxation. Botox infiltrates nerve cells and prevents the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that relays signals between nerves. The effects of the drug are not lasting, and the muscle will eventually recuperate and revert to its original condition.

In the case of severe sweating, Botox operates in a similar manner by inhibiting the release of acetylcholine from the nerve cells that activate the sweat glands.

Side Effects of Neuronox include: muscle weakness near the injection site; bruising, bleeding, discomfort, or tenderness at the injection location; headache, muscle rigidity, neck or back pain; fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, nausea, flu-like symptoms, dizziness, drowsiness, anxiety; dry mouth, dry eyes; increased sweating in areas apart from the underarms; itchy or watery eyes, heightened sensitivity to light; and eyelid swelling or bruising.
